7 Up And Coming Patterns To Make Your Home Happy

Friday, June 17, 2016

In work and at home I'm surrounded by patterns.

Floral, geometric, flamingo, cats, dogs, psychedelic.

I have been fascinated by patterns for a long time,
I had a little girls dream of pursuing it as a career (I had my University picked out and everything!).
Turns out I didn't end up as traditional as I thought, and skipped Uni all together!
However I find it so wonderful that even now, through multiple life changes, I am still at this point, surrounded by pattern and even working with it myself for projects in work.

My little girl dream is beginning to be less of a far away dream.

I always had Orla Kiely on my list of top 10 woman to admire -

Some may critisise, other's may adore, I for one admire. Not so much the laminated bags, but I do love her funky retro inspired homewares, commonly found in Avoca, and simply her patterns as they are. She has that eye for it, that we all wish we had.

Here's my favourite 'coffee table' book of all time, just to give you a little taster if you are not aware of the awesomeness that is Orla Kiely:

7 Prints To Make Your Home Happy

Pattern is a risk, patterned wall paper or tiles, or even a bold throw cushion, can be a risk.
Am I the only one who forever mulls over where to place certain cushions on which sofas?!
But pattern is also a great way to bring life to your home, to liven it up a bit.

And so because of my love for pattern, and the all important cause for an extra dose of happiness in our homes -

I thought I'd put together a bit of a (well probably half of a...) 'look book' of patterns for 2016 (according to pinterest).
I know I'm not the only one who loves patterns too
& so I thought this post would be relevant for my fellow pattern lovers out there & for those who are looking to add the finishing touches to a new home, or even freshen up an old one.

Firstly - Botanicles. Its. Everywhere.

There is no way you haven't seen it yet on the high street, its a hot one for fashion, stationary but mostly interiors. And this is something I REALLY long for in my home, in fact, we have a wall that needs repainted, but I may just TAKE THAT RISK and wall paper that baby with some happy botanicals!

 Then you have textured metallics.

The textured part can be given through the pattern design itself or layering various different metallics together. I personally love giving metallics a blank canvas to become the main focus.

The 3D cubes print which is actually just hexagons coloured smartly.

How sneaky!? I'm not the biggest fan of this one, but I thought I'd include it because through my daily searches on pinterest for interiors, I always come across this trend, it's definitely an up and coming one.

The bold mosaic tiles to brighten up a minimal white kitchen/bathroom.

The minimal blank interior trend is set to stay, however designers this year, are apparently taking to transforming these uber minimal rooms with sections of bold tiling.

The spacious geometric print.

The geometric style patterns are set to stay as well (I mean in my opinion you can't go wrong with a minimalistic geometric pattern) and this one with long horizontal lines caught my eye, the spacing between the pattern is refreshing as so often geometric patterns are very close together, small and intricate, however this is spacious and wide which I love!

And finally the trusty flamingoes.

It's crazy, it's fun, it's happy.

Now, go make your home happy with these prints (if you dare!)

p.s I don't know what is wrong with the alignment of my photos, it's making me cringe, bare with me!
